| E Harding supplies profiles to the railway industry in the year the British steam locomotive Mallard sets steam-rail speed record of 203-kph/126 mph. |

| E Harding Purchase air raid shelter as the first Lancaster is made. |

| The Blades and Bassham families acquire E Harding from Mr & Mrs Billington and the first computer in the world "Baby 1" is invented in Manchester. |

| Manchester Airport opens its new £2.7 million terminal. For the first time anywhere in Europe, passengers could remain under cover until ready to board the aircraft. |

| Reg Bassham joins his father at E Harding and Sons and the following year becomes a director. |

| E Harding buys first Union Carbide Plasma cutting machine which sees the demise of powder cutting. |
